Preview: Rotherham United vs. Wigan Athletic

Sports Mole previews the Championship match between relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.

Wigan Athletic will head into this weekend's match against Rotherham United knowing that not even a win will be enough to move them out of the Championship's relegation zone.

Malky Mackay's side are eight points from safety with just 10 games still to play this season, but Wigan have been stronger away from home than at the DW Stadium recently and have a chance to make it four straight away wins on Saturday as they travel to the New York Stadium.

It had looked like the Latics had turned a corner with back-to-back wins over Norwich City and Blackpool in recent weeks, but last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Leeds United dented their hopes of survival.

That loss means that the club are still looking for their first win since the appointment of new chairman David Sharpe, who recently took over from his grandfather, Dave Whelan.

The club have reported no fresh injury concerns following the defeat to Leeds, but defender Thomas Rogne will not feature after the club announced that his contract had been terminated by mutual consent earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Steve Evans will be hoping that his side can increase the gap between themselves and the bottom three, as they sit 20th heading into Saturday's clash.

Rotherham have won just two of their last seven matches in the Championship, including last weekend's 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Adam Hammill will be available again for the Millers, as he had to sit out last weekend's match against his parent club, but Lee Frecklington is suspended as he was sent off at the John Smith's Stadium.

Evans has confirmed that Craig Morgan will need a fitness test but should be ready to play on Saturday, while Paul Green and Danny Ward are in a similar situation after picking up minor knocks recently.

On-loan forward Connor Sammon marked his return from a groin injury with a goal last weekend, and the manager confirmed that he could continue up front for this weekend's match.

Rotherham secured a 2-1 win over Wigan when the sides met at the DW Stadium just before Christmas.
