The Football Association announces that it has charged Wigan Athletic for failing to prevent a pitch invasion at the end of their FA Cup victory over Manchester City.

The Football Association has announced that Wigan Athletic have been charged with failing to prevent a pitch invasion at the end of their FA Cup fixture with Manchester City.

On February 19, Wigan caused arguably the upset of the domestic campaign as they recorded a 1-0 victory over the Premier League leaders at the DW Stadium.

However, many supporters ran onto the pitch at the full-time whistle, and it has led to the FA revealing that it intends to punish the League One outfit.

A statement read: "Wigan Athletic have been charged for failing to ensure that no spectators or unauthorised persons encroached onto the pitch at the Emirates FA Cup match against Manchester City on Monday, February 19.

"The club has until 6pm on Monday, April 9 to respond to the charge."

Both teams have previously been charged with failing to control their players during a heated match in the North-West.
