Late goal gives West Ham United win over Sampdoria

West Ham United score late to secure a 3-2 win over Sampdoria in their final pre-season friendly.

A stoppage-time goal gave West Ham United a 3-2 win over Sampdoria in their pre-season friendly at Upton Park this afternoon.

Carlton Cole and Mark Noble both had early chances for the hosts, but West Ham were unable to make the most of their possession in the opening 15 minutes.

Sampdoria were quick to capitalise when they got the ball in a good position a couple of minutes later when Stefan Okaka slotted the ball under Adrian.

However, the hosts got back on level terms on the stroke of half time when Dan Potts was brought down in the box, allowing Noble to fire in from the penalty spot.

The Italian side were ahead again on the hour mark when Eder found himself through on goal before firing past Adrian.

The Hammers upped their game while pushing to get back on level terms once more, and they managed to do so through a Mohamed Diame strike in the 77th minute.

The hosts nearly took the lead just two minutes later when Stewart Downing headed against the crossbar, while the winger also forced a save late on with a low drive.

Sam Allardyce's men continued to press, and forced themselves into the lead in stoppage time when youngster Reece Burke played his way out from the back before tapping in the winner.
