A new pitch for the Olympic Stadium following the London 2012 Games could reportedly cost taxpayers up to £2m.

The proposed changes to the Olympic Stadium following the London 2012 Games is expected to cost taxpayers up to £2m.

The ground will need to have a new pitch installed for potential new owners West Ham United or any other football club in order to meet Premier League standards.

While the Hammers were expected to pay for the renovations, last year's legal problems surrounding their bid for the stadium has caused the initial long-term tenancy agreement to be scrapped.

It is believed that a new undersoil heating system for the pitch will have to be taken out of public funds, which could cost up to £2m, according to the Daily Mail.

It remains unclear as to which club will nab the Olympic Stadium, but if West Ham were to prove successful, they may have to rent the £486m ground instead of purchasing it.
