Kevin Nolan criticises Football Association over Andy Carroll treatment

Kevin Nolan criticises the FA for refusing to rescind the red card that was shown to Andy Carroll during West Ham United's 2-0 win over Swansea City on February 1.

Kevin Nolan has criticised the Football Association for refusing to rescind the red card that was shown to Andy Carroll during West Ham United's 2-0 win over Swansea City on February 1.

Carroll was sent off after being adjudged to have struck Swans defender Chico Flores with his forearm, but the Hammers took the matter to an independent tribunal on Friday after their original appeal had been turned down by the FA.

The tribunal also rejected the appeal and, as a result, the England international must now complete his three-match ban, which began with Saturday's 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

"We have nothing against the FA, they've just got to get it right," West Ham captain Nolan told reporters. "When people get things wrong, we expect them to hold up their hands and say, 'yeah, I got it wrong' and move on, like we all have to do.

"We have to hold our hands up as footballers when we get it wrong and take the stick that comes with it. I think they had a chance to redeem themselves and they haven't taken it.

"We were disappointed with the outcome. We thought it was an injustice. Andy is also frustrated, he's a good mate of mine and I felt really sorry for him."

Carroll will miss West Ham's home games against Norwich City and Southampton.
