West Ham United's Stewart Downing hopeful of "strong" finish to the season

West Ham United midfielder Stewart Downing is confident that the team can finish the season 'strongly' following their recent win over Burnley.

West Ham United midfielder Stewart Downing has expressed his belief that he and his teammates can end the season on a high.

The Hammers managed to seal a 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, but it could have been a higher goal margin.

Mark Noble converted from the penalty spot, but his teammates produced 22 attempts on goal during the second half of the clash at Upton Park.

This weekend, West Ham will face Downing's former club Aston Villa, and the 30-year-old is confident that the team will keep their place in the top 10.

"We had been conceding late in games and losing points, so that's two clean sheets and back to winning ways, so hopefully we can finish strong," Downing told West Ham TV.

"We're ninth in the table and it's in our hands to have a really good finish, get over the 50-point mark and that's a really good season for us."

After playing Villa, the Hammers will face Everton at home before ending the season away to Newcastle United on May 24.
