Chris Brunt and Graham Dorrans offered West Bromwich Albion extensions

West Brom exercise the one-year extension options in the contracts of midfielders Chris Brunt and Graham Dorrans, and are in talks with Billy Jones over a new deal.

West Bromwich Albion have triggered one-year extension clauses in the contracts of midfielders Chris Brunt and Graham Dorrans, and are in talks with Billy Jones.

The Baggies announced the release of five players on Friday, including Zoltan Gera, Stephen Reid and Liam Ridgewell, but Brunt and Dorrans have been retained.

Northern Ireland international Brunt, who is club captain at The Hawthorns, has made 249 appearances for Albion since signing from Sheffield Wednesday in 2007.

Dorrans had been out of favour at the West Midlands outfit until the appointment of Pepe Mel in January, and although the Spanish manager has now left the club, the 27-year-old is happy to stay.

Right-back Jones will be a free agent in the summer, but West Brom are hoping that he will sign a new deal, with director of football administration Richard Garlick telling the club's official website: "We have had ongoing discussions with Billy's representatives about a new contract since last October, when we offered him a new long-term deal with substantially-improved terms.

"Talks are continuing but they have proved fruitless so far as Billy has yet to put pen to paper."

On Dorrans and Brunt, Garlick added: "Chris and Graham have given the club long and valued service and played big parts in getting the team over the line last season."

West Brom finished 17th in the 2013-14 Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone.
