West Bromwich Albion downed by Port Vale

Port Vale come from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion in their friendly at Vale Park.

A late own goal from Craig Dawson has given League One outfit Port Vale a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion in their pre-season friendly at Vale Park this evening.

The Premier League side took the lead in the fifth minute through Kemar Roofe, who was fed through on goal by Craig Gardner before finishing with a low strike past the keeper.

Port Vale fought back and levelled the scores in the 18th minute when Ben Williamson turned the ball home following Ryan Lloyd's header back across goal.

The hosts didn't take long to get their second of the match, as nine minutes later Tom Pope headed in from Michael O'Connor's free kick to give his side the lead.

Four minutes after the break West Brom got themselves back on level terms, when Bradley Garmston fired in a powerful strike that beat the keeper at his near post.

Port Vale almost restored their lead immediately, but O'Connor saw his chipped effort over Boaz Myhill come back off the crossbar.

The hosts did manage to score a third goal with five minutes remaining, as Dawson headed the ball into his own net with Myhill left helpless.

In the final minutes Gardner fired an effort against the post and Saido Berahino saw a shot saved, as Vale held on to claim the win.
