Spoils shared between West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa

Aston Villa fight back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against West Bromwich Albion.

Aston Villa have fought back from two goals down to salvage a draw against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

Shane Long's brace gave Albion a 2-0 lead at the break, before second-half strikes from Karim El Ahmadi and Ashley Westwood gave the visitors a share of the spoils.

Long grabbed both Baggies goals inside the first 11 minutes as Steve Clarke's side dominated their Midlands' rivals in the opening exchanges.

The Irishman scored after just three minutes when he brought down Chris Brunt's long ball over the top before slotting home with his left foot.

The Baggies striker had his second of the evening when he pounced on a sloppy ball across the Villa defence to take it away from Nathan Baker and clip over the on-rushing Brad Guzan.

Morgan Amalfitano gave Stephane Sessegnon a great chance to make it three on 18 minutes, but the Benin international could not connect properly with the cross, with the goal at his mercy.

Long wanted his hat-trick when he drove at the Villa defence after the hour mark, but his well-struck effort was beaten away by Guzan with Sessegnon screaming for it to the forward's left.

El Ahmadi pulled one back after he reacted quickest inside the area to hook the ball home after 67 minutes.

Westwood hammered home the equaliser 10 minutes later with a well-struck effort from outside the area.
