Tony Pulis: "Forty points will be safe without question"

After a 1-0 win over Southampton takes them clear of the drop zone, Tony Pulis insists that the traditional 40-point mark will guarantee West Brom safety this season.

Tony Pulis has insisted that 10 more points will guarantee West Bromwich Albion's Premier League survival this season.

A second-minute Saido Berahino goal was enough for the Baggies to beat Southampton 1-0 this afternoon and climb eight points clear of the relegation zone.

It was West Brom's sixth win and seventh clean sheet since Pulis's appointment, but the Welshman has insisted that his side will not relent as they target the traditional 40-point mark which he is convinced will keep them up.

"Forty points will be safe this year without a question," he is quoted by BBC Sport as saying. "Some people take their foot off the peddle and this game is relentless so if you do that you get a kick up the backside."

Only West Ham United in 2003 have been relegated having collected more than 40 points in a 38-game Premier League season.
