Craig Gardner ready to send Aston Villa out to help West Brom stay safe

Craig Gardner says that West Bromwich Albion will try to dent Aston Villa's hopes of survival when they go head to head on Wednesday.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Craig Gardner has insisted that it is 'every man for himself' in terms of the relegation battle in the Premier League.

The Baggies will face Aston Villa on Wednesday evening, and Tim Sherwood is yet to earn his first win since replacing Paul Lambert as manager last month.

Gardner's West Brom side are currently 13th in the Premier League table, eight points above Villa, who reside second from bottom.

"I know what it is like myself, going down with Birmingham City," ESPN quotes Gardner as saying. "I wouldn't wish that on anyone. If you say 'who would rather go down, them or us?', obviously I'm going to choose them.

"They are a good side with a good manager and there are eight or nine teams in the relegation fight so everyone just needs to win their games, but we want to keep our run going."

West Brom are unbeaten in their last four league games.
