Referee Neil Swarbrick apologies for sending off wrong West Bromwich Albion player

Referee Neil Swabrick admits that he made a mistake in sending off West Bromwich Albion's Gareth McAuley in their 3-0 defeat against Manchester City.

Referee Neil Swarbrick has apologised to West Bromwich Albion for sending off the wrong player in their defeat against Manchester City today.

Swarbrick showed defender Gareth McAuley a red card in the second minute for a foul on Wilfried Bony, but replays show that Craig Dawson was the real offender.

A statement from Professional Game Match Officials Ltd, read: "The referee has confirmed the offence was caused by a different player, which should be addressed now as a case of mistaken identity. The referee has apologised for his error."

Man City went on to win the match 3-0, with Bony among the scorers.
