Pepe Mel: 'Chris Brunt will replace Liam Ridgewell at left-back'

Pepe Mel confirms that Chris Brunt will replace the injured Liam Ridgewell at left-back for West Bromwich Albion.

West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel has revealed that club captain Chris Brunt is likely to play at left-back in the closing stages of the season.

Liam Ridgewell was forced off in the second half of the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Monday with a knee injury which could keep him out for the rest of the campaign.

"Brunt can do a really good job in this role and I'm certain that Ridgewell will not be available for the West Ham game, so Chris Brunt is a good option," Mel told the club's official website ahead of Saturday's meeting with the Hammers.

"I select the best players for each particular game and therefore the best option is Chris Brunt."

The Baggies are currently 16th in the Premier League, three points above the relegation zone.
