Gareth McAuley: 'West Bromwich Albion players behind Alan Irvine'

Gareth McAuley insists that West Bromwich Albion remain "positive" despite picking up just one win in their last 10 outings.

West Bromwich Albion defender Gareth McAuley has insisted that the whole squad is right behind under-fire manager Alan Irvine.

The Baggies are currently hovering one point above the relegation zone having failed to win any of their last five Premier League games, while going further back it is just one victory from their last 10 outings.

Some reports suggested that Irvine's job at The Hawthorns had become untenable following the dismal run of form, although McAuley was quick to offer his support to the Scot.

"We're right behind the manager and the coaches," the 35-year-old is quoted as saying by the Birmingham Mail. "They give us everything we need going into the games.

"In training we are given ideas of how to hurt the opposition and win games and also of what to do when we haven't got the ball but at the end of the day it's down to the players that go out there.

"We are certainly all together and positive and we're all looking forward. Everyone wants the same thing for the club and that's to push up the table and try to compete and get better and be progressive."

West Brom are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on local rivals Aston Villa.
