Steven Berghuis close to Watford switch

AZ Alkmaar winger Steven Berghuis confirms that he is close to completing a move to Premier League newcomers Watford.

AZ Alkmaar winger Steven Berghuis has revealed that he is close to sealing a move to Watford.

The 23-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to PSV Eindhoven, will become the Hornets' eighth signing of the summer if he completes a switch to Vicarage Road.

Berghuis, who is a Netherlands youth international, has confirmed that the Premier League newcomers are close to agreeing a deal with AZ.

"Watford and AZ have a couple of small points to reach before an agreement. What it is all about, I do not know. But John van den Brom (AZ coach) and Earnie Stewart (Technical Director) assured me that it will be fine," Berguis told De Telegraaf.

"Once Watford and AZ are agreed, I can sign for four or five years. That must be negotiated further.

"My father, brother and I were in London last week. I'm an emotional person and I want to go to a club that I feel comfortable. It was a visit without any expectations, but I'm certainly open to Watford."

Berguis has scored 19 goals in 70 appearances for AZ.
