Ashley Williams taking positives from Netherlands defeat

Ashley Williams is confident that Wales still have momentum on their side after pushing the Netherlands all the way on Friday night.

Wales captain Ashley Williams has insisted that his side's friendly meeting with the Netherlands was "worthwhile", despite the narrow defeat on home soil.

The Red Dragons twice came from behind at the Cardiff City Stadium in an entertaining game, but were unable to hold off their opponents in a 3-2 reverse.

With the months ticking down until Wales make their bow at next summer's European Championships, Williams believes that every game now takes on added significance in the grand scheme of things.

"It's not nice to lose, especially at home, but it was a worthwhile game," he told BBC Sport. "I said before the game that it was important try to keep our momentum going, not only the result but the manner of our play and performance.

"I think we did that in what was a very difficult game. We had a few players out and the gaffer had a chance to look at a few guys. Now it's important we come back in the next friendly in March and carry on where we left off."

Defeat for Wales on Friday night was their first at home in more than two years.
