Villarreal ease to fifth successive win against Deportivo La Coruna

Luciano Vietto scores twice as Villarreal ease to a 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga.

Villarreal cruised to a 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna to move back up to fifth in the La Liga table.

Jonathan dos Santos needed just 10 minutes to give the hosts the lead with a simple finish from close range, after Denis Cheryshev had seen his low strike kept out by Fabri.

Villarreal dominated after breaking the deadlock, and only fine saves from Fabri to deny Luciano Vietto and Jaume Costa prevented them from pulling away in the first half.

Deportivo missed a golden chance to get back on level terms early in the second half when Ivan Cavaleiro fired just over after being gifted space inside the box.

The hosts found the second goal that their play deserved when Victor Ruiz collected the ball on the left before crossing to Vietto, who calmly slotted home from close range to double his side's advantage.

Vietto wrapped up the win five minutes later with a similar finish, after being picked out in the box by Cheryshev.

Villarreal were reduced to 10 men late on when substitute Tomas Pina was shown a red card for high challenge on Alex, but Marcelino's side were comfortable in the closing stages as they picked up a fifth successive league win.
