Nicolas Otamendi rescues Valencia draw against Celta Vigo

Valencia fight back to draw with Celta Vigo and keep themselves ahead in the Champions League race courtesy of Nicolas Otamendi's late equaliser.

Nicolas Otamendi's late goal has kept Valencia one point ahead of Sevilla in the race for a Champions League place after they drew with Celta Vigo at the Mestalla.

Javi Fuego almost got Los Che off to a fast start when his shot from Dani Parejo's cross was saved, but the hosts fell behind soon after.

Nolito's pinpoint delivery on eight minutes was met by Pablo Hernandez, and the Chilean's header was too good for Diego Alves.

Andreu Fontas came close to doubling the visitors' lead when he headed wide from Fabian Orellana's cross with the interval approaching.

Valencia's best chances of a first-half equaliser came when Paco Alcacer had an effort saved before Alex Lopez was inches away from hitting the target soon after.

Instead, Los Che were made to wait until the 71st minute to draw level after a close-range strike from Otamendi finally broke through the Celta rearguard.

The hosts nearly snatched victory in stoppage time when Alvaro Negredo nodded the ball into Alcacer's path, but the Spanish international's shot from a tight angle wasn't on target as Valencia are now made to wait until the final day of the season to try to confirm a Champions League spot.
