Barack Obama: 'USA have chance of World Cup win'

President of the United States Barack Obama says that his country have got a chance of winning the World Cup.

President of the United States Barack Obama has said that his country have got a chance of winning the World Cup.

The USA qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament despite a 1-0 defeat by Germany in their final Group F match and will now face Belgium in the last 16.

"I have to begin by congratulating our US soccer team, Team USA," Obama said in a speech at a town hall event in Minneapolis.

"You know, we were in what's called the 'group of death'. And even though we didn't win today, we were in the toughest grouping, and we got through. And so we've still got a chance to win the World Cup."

The USA face Belgium in their last-16 clash in Salvador next Tuesday.
