Uruguay captain Diego Lugano misses his team's crucial World Cup encounter with England due to a knee injury.

Uruguay captain Diego Lugano has been ruled out of his team's crucial World Cup encounter with England through injury.

The 33-year-old defender will miss the match in Sao Paulo on Thursday with a knee problem.

Lugano was part of the Uruguay side that suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica in their opening match of the tournament.

The former West Bromwich Albion centre-back has scored nine goals in 94 games for his country since he made his debut 11 years ago.
