And that's all from us at Sports Mole this evening. We're back at 9am for our daily transfer blog for Friday August 8, and with the new season drawing ever closer, there are sure to be some comings and goings to report on. Catch us then.

One final story to bring you this evening. Former Manchester United full-back Denis Irwin has called for Louis van Gaal to add to his defensive options this summer. You can catch the full story here.

As promised, here's more on the story that United are lining a big-money double swoop for Mehdi Benatia and Thomas Vermaelen.

A report has emerged claiming that Manchester United are lining up a £40m double swoop for Mehdi Benatia and Thomas Vermaelen. Arsene Wenger confirmed that United were looking at their Belgium defender on Thursday, but the interest in Roma centre-back Benatia will be an interesting development. Full report to come...

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has hinted that Claudio Yacob could be sold. The Baggies boss said that he wasn't actively looking to offload the midfielder, but refused to rule out a sale. Full story is here.

Another interesting line from Wenger emerging this evening is that he was left disappointed by Bacary Sagna's move to Manchester City this summer. The right-back left on a free transfer. Full story is here.

Thanks Shane. There's been some interesting reaction from Arsene Wenger about Frank Lampard's switch to Manchester City. The ex-Chelsea has joined the champions on loan for six months. We'll have more on that to come.

That's all from me tonight, my friends. Fear not because Paul Gorst is here to take you through to 2am with everything that the rumour mill produces. Until next time....

More on Pochettino now as the Argentine claims that Erik Lamela is well capable of churning out "big performances" for Tottenham, providing that he is afforded the necessary time to fully adjust. More on this here.

It looks like Marouane Fellaini's move to Naples may finally be off as coach Rafael Benitez hints that he has admitted defeat in his bid to sign the midfielder. Click here for more.

It looks like Pepe Reina's Bayern Munich move is gradually reaching its conclusion as the German giants reveal that the Spaniard passed his medical. Full story here.

Some good news for Spurs fans now as boss Mauricio Pochettino reveals that he is "very happy" with his pre-season acquisitions - but admits that there's still room for improvement. Read the full story here.

If you thought that Didier Drogba would be returning to Stamford Bridge with a walking stick due to his advancing years then think again! Chelsea skipper John Terry says that the striker is as lethal as ever. Click here for more.

Well, that's all from me for the day! I'll leave you with this evening's 7pm transfer roundup, which you can find here. I'll leave you in the company of my colleague Shane Callaghan, who will take you through the next few hours.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes reveals that the club's deal to sign Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi on a permanent basis has "gone cold".

It appears that Manchester United are still in the hunt for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal. Newspaper reports have claimed today that the Red Devils want the midfielder to undergo a medical before the two parties agree a fee. It is believed that United's request stems from Louis van Gaal's concern over Vidal's recent knee surgery.

Some transfer news for Arsenal fans, but it's about an outgoing player as opposed to a new arrival. Johan Djourou has signed a permanent deal with Bundesliga side Hamburg following last season's loan stint.

Edinson Cavani is a man who never seems to be too far away from the transfer gossip pages. The Paris Saint-Germain striker's agent Claudio Annelluci has reportedly claimed that both Arsenal and Liverpool have registered an interest in the Uruguayan over the last few months.

Not long ago many Arsenal fans were probably thinking that Sami Khedira would be the next summer signing to walk into the Emirates, but manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that the club were "never" close to securing the Real Madrid midfielder's services.

DONE DEAL! Reading announce the signing of striker Simon Cox, who began his career with the Royals, from Nottingham Forest on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

BREAKING NEWS! Defender John Stones commits his future to Everton by signing a new five-year deal. Get the details here.

Thanks Dan! So far, Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria and Thomas Vermaelen have been dominating the transfer headlines. Now, the attention turns to the Dutch league, where PSV Eindhoven have rejected reports that they have agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the sale of Memphis Depay. Rumours emerged claiming that a £10m deal, including Nacer Chadli, was in place.

That's the end of my stint this afternoon, so I'll now hand back to Danielle Joynson who will guide you through the next four hours.

One man who has been at the centre of a lot of transfer activity so far this summer is Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen. Arsene Wenger has this afternoon confirmed that the Belgium international has been the subject of a bid by Premier League rivals Manchester United, and says that it will be "difficult" to keep hold of the centre-back.

Well they were said to be interested in signing Monaco's Radamel Falcao, but now Liverpool have turned attention to Mauro Icardi according to one report. One problem, Inter Milan value their player at around £28m, so he will not come cheap.

How about this for a transfer story... Twenty-year-old Cork City defender Brian Lenihan is reportedly in the middle of a three-way battle for his signature, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all said to be interested. The full-back has been capped at Under-21 level by the Republic of Ireland, but who will win the race to sign him up? Click here to read more.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has revealed that summer recruit Joleon Lescott is 'likely to miss' the start of the new season through injury. Could he be delving back into the transfer window before next weekend's Premier League kickoff?

It has just gone 1pm, which can only mean one thing - Sports Mole's afternoon Transfer Talk Update. The morning has been dominated by Radamel Falcao's proposed transfer to Liverpool, while Edin Dzeko and Angel di Maria have also made the headlines.

Thanks Danielle! I'll start by bringing you some news concerning Fulham striker Konstantinos Mitroglou. The Greece international was expected to move on from Craven Cottage this summer after making just three appearances last season, but he certainly won't be joining Hertha Berlin. The Bundesliga club's manager Jos Luhukay has today ruled out a move for the 26-year-old.

That's all from me for the time being, so I'll hand you over to Dan Lewis, who will bring you transfer updates for the next few hours.

It appears that the future of Angel di Maria remains in doubt after Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi reportedly confirmed that the club have ended talks with Real Madrid because the Argentina international is "too expensive".

Radamel Falcao has been linked to Real Madrid, Manchester City and now Liverpool, but Moncao sporting director Vadim Vasilyev has denied rumours that any talks have taken place. The club have claimed that they are "counting on" the Colombian to lead the team's attack this season.

DONE DEAL! Cardiff City have announced the signing of midfielder Tom Adeyemi from Birmingham City. The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract, making him the Bluebirds' sixth signing of the summer.

West Ham United have made no secret of their desire to sign a new striker following Andy Carroll's latest injury blow. Chairman David Sullivan has revealed that the club have tabled bids for "three or four" strikers, one of whom is based in England and the other three targets play abroad.

Staying with Manchester City for a moment, and reports have claimed that forward Edin Dzeko is expected to sign a three-year contract extension at the Etihad Stadium. This follows rumours that captain Vincent Kompany is close to agreeing fresh terms with the Premier League champions.

There's some potentially big news for Liverpool fans this morning following reports that the Merseyside outfit are favourites to sign Radamel Falcao from Monaco. Manchester City have also been linked with the Colombian's services, but Liverpool are rumoured to be in pole position to land the forward.

First off, let's round up the stories making the headlines overnight.
