Conference Premier roundup: Barnet extend lead at top despite draw

Barnet extend their lead at the top of the Conference Premier to nine points courtesy of a draw at third-place Woking.

Barnet have extended their lead at the top of the Conference Premier this afternoon, despite being held to a draw at third-place Woking.

Martin Allen's men took the lead with just two minutes on the clock when Luisma fired home to take the Bees' tally to 49 goals for the season, but they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils when Mike Cestor found the net for the home side just before the hour mark.

Nevertheless, results elsewhere saw Barnet increase their lead over second-place Grimsby Town to nine points after the league's form side suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to Kidderminster Harriers at Blundell Park.

Eastleigh won the Hampshire derby 2-0 at Aldershot Town to edge within two points of the playoffs, while John Askey's Macclesfield Town moved into the playoff zone courtesy of a 2-0 win over struggling Alfreton Town at Moss Rose, with Waide Fairhurst kicking home his seventh goal of the campaign.

A brace from Charlie Strutton helped Braintree Town to a 3-1 triumph over bottom side AFC Telford United at New Bucks Head as the Conference North champions moved up two places to 13th.

A fiery second half at the Deva Stadium saw Chester FC come back from two goals down to share the spoils with playoff-chasing Bristol Rovers as Nathan Blissett scored on his debut for the Pirates, while Dover Athletic and Forest Green Rovers ended the day as they started after taking a point apiece in a goalless encounter on the South Coast.

Managerless Dartford fell into the relegation zone after a first-half goal from Tom Miller proved sufficient to earn Lincoln City three points. Meanwhile, Welling United moved out of the dropzone courtesy of a 2-1 win - their first in five - over Halifax Town, who were forced to play most of the second half with 10 men after Matty Pearson was given his marching orders.

Southport followed up their midweek FA Cup triumph over League Two Dagenham & Redbridge with a win by the odd goal in five over 23rd-place Nuneaton Town, whose misery was compounded when Gavin Cowan saw red in the dying seconds.

A flurry of activity in the closing minutes at Plainmoor saw three goals and a sending-off as Torquay United surrendered a 1-0 lead to draw 2-2 with playoff chasers Gateshead. Ryan Bowman's brace for the home side was evened up by an Alex Rodman penalty and Rob Ramshaw's sixth goal in five games, while Valentin Gjokaj saw red for the visitors just before the whistle.

Elsewhere, in the day's feistiest encounter, Wrexham were down to nine men and Altrincham down to 10 as Lee Sinnott's Robins triumphed by the odd goal in five at the Racecourse Ground.

Results in full (half-time scores in brackets): AFC Telford United 1-3 Braintree Town (0-3), Aldershot Town 0-2 Eastleigh (0-1), Chester FC 2-2 Bristol Rovers (0-0), Dover Athletic 0-0 Forest Green Rovers (0-0), Grimsby Town 0-2 Kidderminster Harriers (0-1), Lincoln City 1-0 Dartford (1-0), Macclesfield Town 2-0 Alfreton Town (1-0), Nuneaton Town 2-3 Southport (1-2), Torquay United 2-2 Gateshead (1-0), Welling United 2-1 Halifax Town (1-1), Woking 1-1 Barnet (0-1), Wrexham 2-3 Altrincham (2-0)
