Emmanuel Adebayor brace helps Tottenham Hotspur to victory at Swansea City

Tottenham Hotspur move into the top five of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory at Swansea City.

Tottenham Hotspur have climbed into the top five of the Premier League thanks to an Emmanuel Adebayor-inspired 3-1 victory at Swansea City this afternoon.

Swansea were the side who looked most threatening in the opening 30 minutes, with Jonjo Shelvey and Wilfried Bony going close with long-range efforts.

Bony almost opened the scoring in spectacular fashion after 25 minutes when he unleashed a fierce drive from outside the area that beat Hugo Lloris but slapped the face of the crossbar.

Spurs went in front 10 minutes before the interval when Christian Eriksen accurately swung over a cross that Adebayor, who nodded into the corner from just a few yards.

It was 2-0 not long after half time when Kyle Walker's low centre from the right was turned into his own net by Chico Flores.

Bony continued to try his luck from distance but couldn't get the better of Lloris before Spurs made it three with Swansea short at the back as they were pushing for a goal.

Danny Rose broke down the left and squared for Adebayor, who took a touch before rolling the ball under Gerhard Tremmel and into the net.

Swansea had a goal back in the 78th minute when Bony controlled a side-footed volley into the corner, but it was nothing more than scamp consolation.

The win moves Spurs up into fifth and level on points with Liverpool, who have a much better goal difference than Tim Sherwood's side.

Swansea drop a place to 15th and are now just three points clear of the bottom of the table.
