Garry Monk calls for Swansea City to have a strong finish to the season

Swansea City boss Garry Monk praises his side for reaching 40 Premier League points via victory at Burnley, but challenges them to finish the season strongly.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has challenged his side to finish the season strongly after they beat Burnley 1-0 this afternoon.

An own goal from Kieran Trippier gave the Swans their second straight league win, and they now have 40 points in the Premier League, which is widely considered to guarantee safety from relegation, but Monk does not want his players to relax.

He told BBC Sport: "[It was] Not a classic, the conditions didn't help but it was always going to be a case of whoever got the first goal, was likely to win the game.

"We had to dig in and do the basics well. Jack Cork should have scored initially and it goes down as an own goal.

"It is the earliest we have achieved 40 points. It is another piece of history the players have put down. It is important and we are try to finish the season strongly."

Swansea sit eighth in the Premier League table.
