Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill backs French midfielder Alfred N'Diaye to be a big hit on Weirside after completing his move form Bursaspor earlier this week.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has predicted that new signing Alfred N'Diaye has a style which is a perfect fit for the Premier League.

The 22-year-old signed from Bursaspor earlier this week for an undisclosed fee to add depth to Sunderland's midfield options.

O'Neill believes that the young Frenchman has a strong, determined streak that can help him adapt quickly to English football.

He told The Sun: "He's athletic, he's young enough and he can improve his game plus he's got a lot of determination about him. In time he will definitely improve us, he will give us extra vitality. He's really up for the challenge.

"He attracted our attention. I went out to see him play for Bursaspor against Twente at the back end of August. On the night, he didn't play fantastically well, but even if he had done, it was all going to be rather late to do anything. "We've kept an eye on it ever since and, for the price we paid, we're happy.

"Naturally, you'd like him to settle in and be brilliant immediately, but he'll do really well for us. He can cover a lot of ground and while I think there's room for improvement in technique, that's something he wants to do. I wouldn't say he's a goalscorer by any stretch of the imagination but he'll be a great signing, he really will be."

N'Diaye is eligible to make his debut in this afternoon's match against West Ham United at the Stadium of Light.
