Craig Gardner has admitted that he would like to remain with Sunderland next season, despite concerns over the midfielder's future.
Reports have emerged in recent months suggesting that the 25-year-old could make the switch to West Bromwich Albion after struggling to settle in the North East.
"Hopefully I will be here next season," Gardner told the Northern Echo. "I have a contract, so why not? I really am happy at Sunderland and feel as if I'm playing some good football.
"The fans have been great with me and hopefully they can see I give everything when I go out on to the pitch. I could have scored a couple more goals, but it's my first season up here and your first season is always difficult."
Gardner moved to the Stadium of Light from Birmingham City last year.
