Keiren Westwood insists that he needs more first-team football following a "disappointing" season with Sunderland.

Sunderland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has suggested that he could leave the club this summer following a "desperately disappointing" campaign.

The Black Cats' second-choice keeper, who failed to make an appearance in the Premier League last season, has labelled former manager Martin O'Neill's decision not to sell him last summer as a "disaster".

"It was not a great season for myself," the Hartlepool Mail quotes Westwood as saying.

"I haven't had a chance to play and on that front it has been desperately disappointing, to be honest. So I'm looking to next season now, to get a few games under my belt.

"[O'Neill] couldn't really let me go, which was a disaster, really, because it has not gone well for me since. I haven't played any games and I lost my place with Ireland as well."

Westwood featured in just three League Cup games in the campaign.
