Gus Poyet: 'Sunderland can take positives'

Gus Poyet says that his Sunderland side can "take positives" from their loss against Tottenham Hotspur.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has said that his side can "take positives" from their game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday despite losing 2-1.

Sebastian Larsson had cancelled out Jan Vertonghen's fourth-minute opener, but Christian Eriksen won it late for Spurs.

After the game, Poyet told the BBC: "It's painful. I thought we were good enough to take something from the game. I think we need to learn.

"We lost the game today because of a couple of incidents, but I think we can take positives.

"We created a great chance in the first half for Steven Fletcher, Danny Graham has forced a great save at the end and I think we should have had a penalty for a foul on Jermain Defoe."

The result leaves Sunderland 16th in the table.
