Gus Poyet: 'Adam Johnson arrest my toughest day in management'

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet admits that Adam Johnson's arrest earlier this week was "very difficult" to take.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has revealed that he has endured his toughest week in football management to date following the arrest of Adam Johnson.

The England international was suspended by the Black Cats on Monday after being detained by police on suspicion of having sex with an under-age girl.

Johnson has since been bailed by Durham police, where he will return for further questioning in two weeks' time.

Poyet was asked specifically about the case following his side's 1-1 draw against Hull City last night, telling reporters: "The only thing I can tell you is that it was a very difficult day [on Monday]. Very difficult day. I've never had one like that, very difficult."

Sunderland find themselves sitting four points above the Premier League drop zone with 10 games of the season left to play.
