Gus Poyet has 'no regrets' after Steve Bruce touchline spat

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet plays down his touchline spat with Hull City boss Steve Bruce in their 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium on Tuesday night.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has shrugged off his touchline spat with Hull City boss Steve Bruce in Tuesday evening's 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium, claiming that "things happen" in football.

The Uruguayan was sent to the stands after appearing to kick over a water cooler full of drinks following the decision of referee Mike Dean to book Jack Rodwell for diving.

Poyet offered to shake the hand of the opposition manager, who refused the gesture - the Black Cats boss then clapped, with the linesman having to hold Bruce back afterwards.

Poyet told BBC Sport after the game: "In football things happen. I have to convince the officials not to put any buckets of drinks around me. I have no regrets whatsoever.

"If that is a bad image for football I am sorry but I don't think it's something to worry about. I'm old fashioned. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch."

Sunderland remain 16th in the Premier League table.
