Half-Time Report: Sunderland, Carlisle United level

Sunderland and Carlisle United head in at half time with the score level at 1-1 in this afternoon's FA Cup clash.

Half time at the Stadium of Light sees Sunderland and Carlisle United level at 1-1 in this afternoon's FA Cup third-round tie.

The away side had an attempt on goal from a James Berrett free kick on nine minutes, but Sunderland stood firm and cleared well.

Jozy Altidore had a great chance to give the Premier League outfit the lead after being found by Adam Johnson, but the striker saw his effort saved by Greg Fleming.

Craig Gardner came close on 19 minutes, connecting with a volley from a corner, but his strike went just wide of the mark.

Matt Robson worked some space on the edge of the area on 24 minutes, but he could only fire his shot wide of the right-hand post.

The home side began to pressure Carlisle and came close on two occasions through Gardner and Altidore, although neither could trouble the goalkeeper.

Sunderland then took the lead on 34 minutes through Johnson, who whipped a free kick straight into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Vito Mannone kept his side in front on 37 minutes, making a fine save to keep Lewis Guy's effort out as Carlisle pushed forward towards the end of the first half.

Carlisle's pressure paid off when Robson equalised for the away team on 42 minutes, latching onto Guy's knockdown before smashing in off the underside of the bar.
