Stoke City chairman Peter Coates denies interest in Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates denies reports that the club are interested in signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has denied reports that the club are interested in signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 27-year-old is rumoured to be considering his future at Anfield, with some reports stating that he could leave the club in January.

It has been claimed that Sturridge has accepted that he will not be a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp's team after starting just four Premier League games so far this season.

Stoke have been named as potential suitors for the England international, while Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be pondering a bid for when the transfer window reopens in January.

Coates has moved quickly to remove the Potters from the reported race to sign him by telling BBC Radio Stoke: "No, it's not [true]. But that's how the media works, there are always lots of headlines and pieces like that with players and other clubs and it goes on.

"He is a fine player, I like him very much, so who knows in football, it is an uncertain business where you get a lot of surprises."

Sturridge has scored four goals this season, but all of them came in the EFL Cup.
