Liverpool, Arsenal target Asmir Begovic hints at Stoke City exit

Asmir Begovic hints that he may leave Stoke during the summer unless the club proves its ambition in the transfer window.

Asmir Begovic has told Stoke City to give him a reason to extend his contract by proving their ambition during the summer transfer window.

The Bosnian goalkeeper has a little over 12 months to go on his existing deal, with Liverpool and Arsenal said to be monitoring his situation.

Negotiations are yet to get underway over an extension, and the 27-year-old has hinted that he could be tempted to leave if manager Mark Hughes does not splash the cash during the off-season.

"You get to a certain age and stage in your career where you want to be part of a successful team pushing forward and we have the ambition to do that and keep the right players here, so we'll see how it works out," he told The Express.

"Part of the fun of playing under Mark Hughes is that he's trying take the club forward. He's changed a lot of things around for us and we've definitely enjoyed that. The whole structure he's put in place will benefit everybody.

"I've always been very settled and satisfied here. I've a year left on my contract and so I'm pretty calm with the situation. We will talk when the time is right and see if we can make it a long-term one."

Earlier this month Begovic said that he expects his contract situation to be resolved during the summer.
