Charlie Adam tips Jack Butland to 'play for top team'

Stoke City's Charlie Adam backs goalkeeper Jack Butland to play for one of the Premier League's "top teams" in the future.

Young goalkeeper Jack Butland has "got the potential to go and play for one of the top teams", according to his Stoke City teammate Charlie Adam.

The 22-year-old has been entrusted with the number one position this season by manager Mark Hughes following the summer departure of Asmir Begovic to Chelsea.

Since then Butland has kept five Premier League clean sheets, form that has earned him senior international recognition with England.

Looking to the future, Adam has insisted that Butland has what it takes to keep goal for one of the best sides in the country.

"He's going to be one of the best in the league in the next couple of years," the Scot told Sky Sports News.

"He's got the potential to go and play for one of the top teams. I know the manager will be shouting at me for saying that, but he has the potential."

Butland joined Stoke from Birmingham City in 2013 for £3.5m.
