Akins, Morais goals see off Swindon

Stevenage beat Swindon Town 2-0 at the Lamex Stadium thanks to goals from Lucas Akins and Felipe Morais.

Stevenage have beaten Swindon Town 2-0 in this evening's League One game at the Lamex Stadium.

A first-half goal from Lucas Akins and a penalty from Felipe Morais sealed the victory for Graham Westley's men.

There was action early on, as Simon Heslop won a corner in the first minute after some good work from Francois Zoko and Morais.

In the 15th minute, Swindon striker Nile Ranger was denied by Boro keeper Chris Day.

Just before the half-hour mark, a Stevenage goal was ruled out for offside. A short corner fell to Zoko, who headed it in at the near post, but the referee disallowed the strike.

The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute. Akins was able to collect a loose ball, before turning and hitting it into the bottom corner past the Robins keeper.

The home side were then given the chance to double their lead in the second half from the penalty spot after Zoko was fouled in the box. Morais made no mistake from six yards, tucking the ball into the bottom corner.

Zoko very nearly added a third just two minutes later after a run from the halfway line, but the ex-Notts County man fired just wide.

Boro kept pushing, Luke Freeman coming close with a turn and shot in the 69th minute.

Ryan Mason, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, had two good chances in the latter stages of the second half for the Robins, but was unable to capitalise.
