Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier admits that he wanted to leave Mauricio Pochettino's side in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier has conceded that he wanted to leave Mauricio Pochettino's side during the recent summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old is yet to turn out for Spurs in the early stages of the 2019-20 campaign but appeared twice for the Ivory Coast during the recent international break.

Aurier has admitted that he wanted to leave the London club after a disappointing 2018-19 season, but the defender has suggested that he is ready to contribute this term.

"I'd simply decided to leave [this summer], which was normal for me," Aurier told Bal des Productions. "Many things were taken into consideration. In the end, I wasn't able to leave.

"It proves the club trust me on a lot of points, and we'll see. We'll see how the season pans out, but for now, I'm here, the transfer window is shut and we need to concentrate on the campaign ahead."

Kieran Trippier's summer exit and an injury to Juan Foyth has left Kyle Walker-Peters as Tottenham's only first-team right-back. Davinson Sanchez appeared in that area of the field against Arsenal last time out, though, and the Colombian's performance was widely criticised.
