Brilliant Liverpool put five past Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool put on a brilliant display to thrash Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 in the Premier League.

Liverpool have comprehensively beaten Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon in the Premier League to move up to second in the table.

The visitors tested Hugo Lloris in the first minute, but Philippe Coutinho's shot was weak and it rolled into the goalkeeper's arms.

Good work down the right by Aaron Lennon gave Paulinho time and space for a shot, which the Brazilian failed to take as he blazed over from 18 yards.

Chances continued to flow and this time Luis Suarez saw an effort deflected wide under the close attention of Etienne Capoue.

However, Suarez broke the deadlock moments later. Jordan Henderson burst into the box before offloading the ball to his teammate, who poked it past Lloris from close range.

The Liverpool captain was then thwarted by Lloris as he sneaked in behind the Spurs defence, before Coutinho continued the away side's dominance with a volley that hit the bar.

Nacer Chadli headed over for Spurs as they began to come back into the match, but again Suarez got in behind after Lloris misjudged a long clearance. However, the French goalkeeper was able to recover just in time.

Lewis Holtby shot wide from about 15 yards and the Reds made Spurs pay as they raced up the other end and Suarez found Henderson, who saw his first shot saved before slotting in the rebound.

Spurs had a goal disallowed for a foul on Simon Mignolet just before the half-time whistle.

Soldado had an early sight of goal in the second half but fired over, before Mamadou Sakho hit the bar after the hosts had failed to clear a corner.

The afternoon got worse for Spurs when Paulinho was shown a straight red card by referee Jon Moss for a high boot on Suarez.

Liverpool missed chances to extend their lead, but it was 3-0 with just over 15 minutes to play. The ball fell to Jon Flanagan and the defender made no mistake in drilling his shot home for his first goal for the club.

Suarez added his second and Liverpool's fourth with seven minutes left. Luis Alberto nudged the ball through to the striker, who lifted it over the onrushing Lloris.

The misery was not over for Spurs fans, however. Suarez dinked the ball through to Raheem Sterling, and the winger slotted it into the net.
