Christian Eriksen: 50th cap for Denmark was "really special"

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen says that it was "really special" to earn his 50th cap for Denmark during the international break.

Christian Eriksen has admitted that it was "really special" to make his 50th international appearance for Denmark this week.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was made captain for the occasion, skippering the team to a 3-2 win over the USA in a friendly.

After returning to his club, the 23-year-old told the Tottenham website: "It's always exciting to play for my national team and to already have 50 caps is very pleasing. I'm very lucky to have had the chance to get to 50 caps.

"It was really special to achieve that and to lead the team out. The manager asked me if I wanted to be captain and of course you don't say no! Naturally, he said it was only for one time but I have a 100% record as captain so I'm happy with that.

"You also have to give a speech when reaching 50 caps and there is a lot of pride in doing that in front of everyone. That was probably where I felt the most nervous but I'm just happy to play for my national team and lucky to have the chance to have already played 50 games."

Eriksen also played in Denmark's 2-0 defeat to France during the international break.
