Roberto Soldado: 'I was close to tears after goal'

Roberto Soldado admits that he was close to tears after scoring the winner in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 victory over Everton.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado has admitted that he was close to tears after scoring the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Everton.

The Spaniard found the net late in the first half to give Spurs a crucial advantage at White Hart Lane, and he was quick to pay tribute to the home supporters after the game.

"I always feel the love of the supporters and I was delighted to score for the team," Soldado told the club's website. "The moment the ref blew for half time everybody sung my name and I welled up a little bit, I had a tear in my eye. It was very special.

"I needed to score because in last few games I've felt good, but it's important for a forward to score. It was a very important win."

Spurs will be looking for a third successive league victory when they take on Premier League leaders Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
