Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has backed Harry Redknapp to be named as the next England manager.

The Spurs boss has been widely tipped as the favourite to take over the national side following Fabio Capello's resignation two months ago.

Although Crouch was shown the exit at White Hart Lane by Redknapp over the summer, the player thinks that the 65-year-old has what it takes to take charge of England.

"He's the Tottenham manager at the moment, he's in a job, but for me he would be a fantastic candidate for England," the forward told Sky Sports News.

"I think he has got all the credentials, he's very experienced. I have worked for him before and he has always done fantastically well wherever he has been."

The 31-year-old also admitted that Redknapp's appointment could help him get back into the international set up.

"I would like to think it would increase [my chances]," he added. "I have always felt that I have done well for him wherever I have played. He's a top class manager, he has proved that at Tottenham."

Crouch currently has 42 England caps after he made his debut under Sven-Goran Eriksson in 2005.
