Moussa Sissoko: 'Lack of squad depth not to blame for Champions League exit'

Tottenham Hotspur's Moussa Sissoko rejects suggestions that his side lack in-depth quality, claiming that the Lilywhites have "a good squad and a strong team".

Moussa Sissoko has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur 'should have done better' in their meeting with AS Monaco, but refused to blame a lack of squad depth.

The Lilywhites crashed out of the Champions League after falling to a 2-1 reverse in the South of France on Tuesday evening, making it mathematically impossible to finish in the top two of Group E.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino took the decision to rotate his side, leaving out Jan Vertonghen, Kyle Walker and Christian Eriksen with one eye on next Saturday's showdown with Chelsea in the Premier League, but Sissoko insists that Tottenham's latest setback has nothing to do with a dearth of quality.

"I cannot agree. Personally I think we have a good squad and a strong team to do even better in the Champions League. That is why we are all so disappointed," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"Everybody is entitled to say what they think but for me our squad is more than good enough to have done better. But we didn't do well enough and now we must take the criticism, even if we think it is wrong."

Tottenham can still qualify for a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League, needing a point when they face CSKA Moscow at Wembley Stadium early next month.
