Diego Costa relieved to end Spain drought

Diego Costa says that he is relieved to end a six-game goal drought and net his first goal for Spain.

Diego Costa has expressed his relief after netting his first goal for Spain in the 4-0 win away to Luxembourg in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Costa ended a six-game goal drought in last night's win as the Brazil-born hitman finally opened his account for La Roja.

Last night's win represented a much-needed tonic for Spain following a shock 2-1 defeat to Slovakia last week, and the Chelsea striker hopes that he can now lead an upturn in fortunes for the European champions.

"I have to thank the coach [Vicente del Bosque] for his support," Costa told TVE. "Every game he gave me another chance.

"It was starting really bother me. It bothered me that I wasn't scoring but what really bothered me that the team were losing. But this goal will give me a new start."

Costa added a third after first-half goals from David Silva and Paco Alcacer, while Juan Bernat completed the rout in the dying minutes.
