Southampton manager Ronald Koeman defends 3-5-2 formation

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman defends his decision to play 3-5-2 against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, despite suffering defeat.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has refused to question the 3-5-2 system that he used at the weekend, despite losing to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

The Saints have used the formation numerous times during the campaign, but they were unable to end Saturday's clash on the winning side following a single goal from Saido Berahino.

"If I have to do the lineup again, I would do the same," the Daily Echo. "We played I think this season two or three times out of this system. We won every game and the players know the system.

"We have players to do and to play out of this system but after the 1-0 down every time we had three defenders against one attacker and that was the decision what I made to change because 1-0 down makes a different game."

Southampton are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
