Nigel Adkins says that he is "proud and honoured" to be leading Southampton back into the Premier League.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has expressed his delight about his side's promotion to the Premier League.

The Saints manager told BBC Sport that he is "proud and honoured" to be leading the team back into the top flight after a seven-year absence.

"A lot of people have put a lot of hard work in here - the players deserve all the plaudits they'll get," Adkins said.

"Southampton are back in the Premier League and I'm a happy man."

Southampton secured second place in the Championship with a 4-0 victory over Coventry City at St Mary's this afternoon.
