Shane Long to miss six weeks with punctured lung

Southampton striker Shane Long suffers a punctured lung in an injury that rules him out of action for six weeks.

Southampton striker Shane Long has been ruled out for six weeks after suffering a punctured lung in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

The Irishman sustained the injury, along with two broken ribs, in a collision with Palace defender Joel Ward at St Mary's.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman could now dip into the transfer market as Long's absence leaves him with just one fit striker - Graziano Pelle.

Koeman's side sit third in the Premier League table as the South Coast club look to qualify for the Champions League.

The transfer window closes on February 2.
