Second-half goals give Burnley win

Burnley score two second-half goals to secure all three points in the 2-0 win away at Sheffield Wednesday.

Burnley scored both goals in the second half to secure all three points in a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The away side had the best of the opening stages and had the first effort on goal after 12 minutes when Kieran Trippier rattled the crossbar from 30 yards out.

Wednesday eased their way back into the game and began to pressurise Burnley with three successive corners. Miguel Llera almost got on the end of a cross before Kieran Lee's effort was well saved by Lee Grant.

The home side had a great opportunity to take the lead through Jeremy Helan, but the winger completely missed the ball and wasted the chance.

Some impressive football put Burnley back on top and they had a chance to take the lead, but Jason Shackell fired over the bar.

Trippier put in a fine cross towards Sam Vokes, but the striker could not get on the end of it to give his side the lead.

Just before half time, Vokes was involved again, this time playing Chris McCann in on goal, but the midfielder was denied by Chris Kirkland.

Helan created the first chance of the second half, driving into the area and feeding Lee, who saw his shot blocked before Michail Antonio was closed down.

Burnley took the lead after 64 minutes through a fine 25-yard strike from Keith Treacy, which flew straight into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

The referee awarded Burnley a penalty on 75 minutes when Lewis Buxton handled in the area. Ross Wallace stepped and confidently powered past Chris Kirkland to make it 2-0 and secure the win.
