Half-Time Report: Chris Maguire penalty gives Sheffield Wednesday the advantage

Chris Maguire's spot kick gives Sheffield Wednesday a 1-0 advantage going into half time of their Championship match against Blackpool.

Chris Maguire's penalty has given Sheffield Wednesday a 1-0 lead going into half time of their Championship match against Blackpool.

There was an early opportunity for Maguire, who bent a free kick just over the bar.

Ishmael Miller did well down the left but Chris Eagles couldn't connect with the striker's cut-back before good play from Wednesday saw Maguire play the ball over the top for Stevie May, who clipped over the goal.

Blackpool's response came in the form of Jacob Murphy as he sent an 18-yard effort just past the post.

The game burst into life after the referee awarded Wednesday a penalty after the linesman judged Peter Clarke to have fouled May. Maguire stepped up and sent Joe Lewis the wrong way to score.
