Brighton & Hove Albion's Oliver Norwood signs for Sheffield United

Oliver Norwood returns to the Championship with Sheffield United following back-to-back promotions with Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham.

Sheffield United have snapped up Oliver Norwood from Brighton & Hove Albion on an initial loan deal that is to be made permanent.

The 27-year-old boasts plenty of Championship experience thanks to promotion-winning spells with Brighton and more recently Fulham in the last two seasons.

Norwood, who appeared in 39 of the Cottagers' league matches last term, is now on his way back to the second tier with promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.

An agreement is in place for the Northern Ireland international to join on a permanent basis in January, with a three-and-a-half-year deal being penned.

United boss Chris Wilder is delighted to have brought in a sixth new player, telling his side's official website: "This is a fantastic capture for us.

"Oli has great ability, is a great age and will make us stronger. He complements our squad and our transfer business over the course of the summer window."

Norwood, also linked to Hull City, was brought on as a second-half sub in Fulham's playoff final victory against Aston Vila three months ago.
