Chris Wilder: 'Sheffield United stepped out of Sheffield Wednesday's shadow'

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has a dig at Sheffield Wednesday by joking that the Blades are no longer "in their shadow" following their 4-2 derby win.

Chris Wilder has claimed that Sheffield United have finally stepped out of Sheffield Wednesday's shadow after securing a 4-2 win in the Steel City derby.

The Blades raced into a two-goal lead in Sunday's clash at Hillsborough, only for the hosts to fight back and level in the second half.

United, however, quickly edged back in front through Mark Duffy, and Leon Clarke made sure of his side's victory when he scored his second of the game in the 77th minute.

"I'm so proud of the players and the supporters," United boss and lifelong fan Wilder told Sky Sports News. "It was an outstanding effort and fully deserved in my opinion.

"We have had to wait a long time as a football club and there have been some ups and downs for the club since its existence, but this is a great one. We get rammed down our throat about 'coming out of a pub league' and 'always in our shadow'; well I don't think we were in their shadow today.

"We stepped out and played some outstanding football, defended when we had to, won headers, won tackles, won races, and opened them up. It was them at the end smashing it forward trying to get a result and I thought we were outstanding in every department."

United, who have have scored four goals at Hillsborough for the first time in their history, sit fourth in the Championship table following their derby win.
