Sidney Sam: 'I have high hopes for Schalke 04'

Sidney Sam believes that Schalke 04 should be looking to compete for the Bundesliga title this season.

Schalke 04 summer signing Sidney Sam has insisted that he wants the club to challenge Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga title this season.

Sam said that he expects more competition for his place than at Bayer Leverkusen, but that is a challenge he is looking forward to.

"I've settled in well and definitely want to achieve great things here," he told Bundesliga.com. "We want to finish in the top three and get at least as far in the Champions League as we did last season. If Bayern or Dortmund slip up, we want to take advantage.

"Competition for places is always good, every player benefits from it and that's the way it should be. It's the way you improve and I'm looking forward to it."

Sam played for Leverkusen for four years before joining Schalke.
